Easter Week

Aww at last Easter is nearly here, my favorite time of the year. At this time of year I reflect on all that Jesus gave for us so that we might live. Christ Speaking "I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly".

God's Love- "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16 NIV).

Jesus is our one true peace and the only one we as people should follow. The world is full of lies and deceit and sin.
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

Let us pray
that the Risen Christ will raise us up
and renew our lives.
God our Father,
by raising Christ your Son
you conquered the power of death
and opened for us the way to eternal life.
Let our celebration today
raise us up and renew our lives
by the Spirit that is within us.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
For Easter we are going to church then afterwards I will have the family over for a delicious Easter dinner. Steve is going to make Beef Stroganoff for the family. I am going to make us a green salad and buy some bread this time rather then making it homemade because we want Sourdough bread. Mom is going to make a fruit salad of strawberries, bananas, kiwi and pineapple. It's going to be yummy!
I am going to make a dessert, Strawberry Cheesecake Trifle. I made it last year with the Trifle bowl my mom gave me for my birthday.
I will probably make some cookies as well because there is always someone who doesn't like something........ you know how that goes right?

Strawberry Cheesecake Trifle Recipe by Kraft

Layers of cheesecake/pudding with chunks of pound cake and freshly sliced strawberries.
Strawberry Cheesecake Trifle

3 cups sliced fresh strawberries
3 Tbsp sugar
2 pkgs (8 oz each) Cream Cheese, softened
1 1/2 cups cold milk
1 pkg vanilla instant pudding
2 cups cool whip, divided
2 cups pound cake cubes (1 inch)
Combine berries and sugar; refrigerate until ready to use.
Beat cream cheese with mixer until creamy. Gradually beat in milk. Add dry pudding mix; mix well.
Blend in 1 1/2 cups cool whip. Spoon half of the mixture into a trifle or clear bowl.
Top with layers of cake, berries and remaining cream cheese mixture. Refrigerate at least 4 hours but best if refrigerated over night.

I am very sad these past weeks as I found out my youngest brother has cancer. It's kidney cancer. They think they can get it out because it is small, but also he is in a lot of pain in his abdomen and we don't know what is wrong with him and neither to the Doctor's for sure at this point and until they remove the cancer on his kidney, they didn't think the abdomen pain had anything to do with the caner. My brother is starting to worry because he is being told so many things. It will be best when they know more and he can relax. But for now he is on Vicodin and is suffering with pain.
It's very hard to have a family member sick, as I remember when Shane was sick and there seems like there is nothing you can do, but then I remember that prayer is the best thing that anyone can really do.

What are you going to do for Easter?
I pray you and your family have a wonderful Easter! ~Kat

Vintage Beads from the 60's and 70's! Blast from the Past!

Wow! I came across some Vintage beads that some are over 30 years old coming from the 60's and 70's. A Blast from the past. What a find! These are brand new beads that never were sold and are now being sold again. This is pretty exciting!

You can click on any of the photos in this post to see the photos larger.

This is only some of what I purchased. I have some tortoise hoops as well and other hoops. Pretty soon I will be making some vintage jewelry with these wonderful beads.
It makes me think of how I made my own jewelry back in the 70's.

I got my census questionnaire today to fill out. Last week I got a letter saying I was going to get this census questionnaire and be sure to fill it out. How stupid is that?? what a waste of money sending out that letter. Like we have not all heard by now that we are getting the census this year and we should fill it out. It you don't they come knocking at your door anyway. Like I want them to show up at my door. I have no reason to not fill it out, although I have not read each question. I am not sure I will answer all the questions, we will see.

A few weeks ago I took a test to see what I am politically. Liberal, Libertarian or Conservative. It was good to know. I was not what I thought I was. LOL!

You should go take the test and see if you are what you think you are, you might be surprised!

Look at this gorgeous photo I took today of pretty pink Azalea's.
Azalea's

Two pretty birds through the window, that is why it's not a clear photo.
Lesser Gold Finch
Two Lesser Gold Finches. I still have not seen any American Gold Finches yet. The Sacramento Bee reports that California ranked second in the great backyard bird count in 2010 and only New York counted more birds in the backyard bird count this year.
I believe the Audubon Society organized this. I did not participate because I found out about it to late. So next year I will do it for sure.
The American Gold Finch showed up 771 times in Sacramento's bird count and yet I didn't see not one. Although I don't live in Sacramento, I am only 40 minutes away.
Well now that it's getting warmer perhaps I will see them soon.
To find out more about the great backyard bird count go to http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/

Steve and I are going to paint the master bedroom this weekend. It's a salmon pink we don't like right now, it's still going to be in the pink family but much darker.
LOVE IT!!!! I mean the new color. I need that ladies voice from the commercial were she is ordering off the menu and it says cash only and the guy runs across the street to get cash and she says LOVE as she is reading all the great food off the menu. I want her audio. I just love that! it's so cute.

I made three purses last week, two Dachshund purses and 1 bird purse/handbag.

Dachshund Purse
Bird Purse
This bird purse is mine and the Dachshund purse I made for my cousins wife who lives in Ohio, that is where my mom was born and raised. I made an extra Dachshund purse to put for sale. I hate the rectangle handles on my bird purse. They slide to much though very cute. The round handles are nice and work well. I also think clear handles would look nicer with the color of my purse although in person it looks very nice.
I found an old button of my moms and put it in the center of a Yo-Yo flower I made and sewn leafs. The old button of my moms is from the 60's. Cute idea I thought. Now I have a part of something of my moms with me all the time.
I cannot take the handles off for fear of ripping the fabric up so...... live and learn. Next time I make me a purse I will use the round handles or straps.

Look at this darling bird I stitched up using a pattern from www.patchworkpottery.com
It's really fast and I am going to make a dozen of them and put them in a polka dot bowl on the table for Easter decoration.

I'll try to check in again later in the week, until next time have a great Saint Patrick's Day! ~Kat

March Already!

Wowzers! time flies when you're having fun. I can't believe I have not found the time to update my blog, but I've been really busy creating a secondary Jewelry and trinket shop. I will also be offering handmade handbags there, such as this one and other styles as well. I plan on doing pets, retro styles and birds, cherries and whatever else I can come up and time allows.

This is only one of many styles. You can check out my new website at http://www.shinymoonbeams.com

I will be offering retro style handbags, beach themed jewelry made with Shells and Pearls, Moonstones and more.

All jewelry that originates from a living creature, plant or other living organism is considered organic jewelry. Most of the jewelry on this site is made once. When it’s gone it’s gone. Why not treat yourself to some 1 of a kind jewelry today!

What have I been up to other then that, well building a website was no easy task let me tell you. I had to install wordpress the old fashioned way because the Fantastico would not allow me to put it in my main tree, I really needed it in my main tree. then I had to find a shopping cart and learn how to use that. Ugg!!! what a chore that was.

Well it's done so now I can move on and hopefully get all the things done in time I need to.

I made this really cute, (Well I think it's cute), altered art tag today for a slight diversion of my building websites and beading.

I really enjoyed this very much. Creating cards and tags have been something I have been doing since the 90's.

The pinecone and flower stamp I used were given to me from a friend. She gave me about 8 stamps. All brand new. I bought the birds, It came with several in one pack and I used these supplies:

distress inks, distress reinkers, rock candy distress stickles, heat tool, mini mister, perfect pearls, glossy accents, ink blending tool by Ranger, grungepaper, scissors, stamps, glue, ribbon and other elements.

I captured some cute finches on a video from my window, today I caught the tinniest little Lesser Finches they are so adorable. I have not seen not one American Gold Finch, even though Sac Bee said it was in the top list of birds in our area. But maybe it's been to cold for them yet. I read they are mostly in the southern end of the state this time of year. I even have thistle seed out.

Steve and I went out to the rice fields and looked in trees for birds, we found a old oak tree there, I was looking for a owl, but I hear they come out at dusk. I caught a woodpecker instead. I was not unhappy to catch that shot.

Small and Black and white woodpecker.

Male's
Black and white barred black, streaked with white on the center of crown, red on rear crown and upper nap.

Photo taken in Lincoln, California off Nicolaus on Brewer Road a Bird Hotspot in Placer County

I bought three books about birds, two are very old, published in 1939 "The Book of Birds".

It's by Gilbert Grosvenor and the art in it is fantastic by Allan Brooks, just gorgeous art of the birds.

American Goldfinch Carduelis tristis

Red-breasted Sapsucker Sphyrapicus ruber

The last book I bought is just a Backyard Bird book I bought at Lowe's. It's very interesting though.

Have a nice weekend. ~Kat
